Together we can help everyone reign in the rain!

Managing rain water is an issue many communities and individual property owners face.  This website stems from a larger effort seeking to understand and provide solutions for managing stormwater at a small scale (i.e. individual properties and small groups of properties) in the Villages of Winnetka, Glenview, and Niles, Illinois. The ‘Water Solutions Project’ serves as the online workspace for such.  It is a place where residents and business owners can share their experiences, ideas and suggestions (photos are welcome!), as well as a resource for those trying to figure out answers to problems like..

  • How do I get rid of the “ponds” in my backyard?
  • How can I capture rain water and use it for gardening?
  • What do I do to keep water out of my basement?

Please explore and use this site to help prepare plans and use them in support of your own stormwater management program.

Project Background

This project began as an effort by the Villages of Winnetka, Niles, and Glenview, Illinois to expand their flood management plans. Working with a consultant team, the communities are preparing pilot studies for small area stormwater management. The results of these studies will be tools and model management plans for single family, multiple family, business, and central business areas (all of which have different problems and best solutions for dealing with stormwater).
